After the outbreak of diarrhea in Kolkata, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has taken up the initiative to find out the exact cause of the outbreak of diarrhea. KMC started to cracking down on fake Packaged Drinking Water in different parts of the city to control the sale of impure Packaged Drinking Water.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation health department raided some shops, restaurants and water plants. And, it is found that, some of them are selling Packaged Drinking Water without following the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms. Some of the retailers were found selling water bottles without licenses, seals or manufacturing dates. Officials have warned the businessman and collected water samples. They also have seized water bottles for testing.
Mr. Atin Ghosh, member, mayor-in-council overseeing the health department, said that, they will write to the FSSAI authorities and the state enforcement branch to conduct raids on illegal water plant units.
