The demand of Packaged Drinking Water is increasing at an alarming level in the country. Taking the advantage of this situation many unlicensed water plants are selling unsafe and unsealed water, which can cause several health hazards to people. The government will soon bring a law to stop the sale of the unsealed water.
Mr. Girish Bapat, food and civil supplies minister said that, they have registered around 80 cases against the suppliers of unsealed water in Nagpur and now the center has ordered them to stop the sale of unsealed water on the basis of this upcoming new law. The law will come into action from January 1.
In Nagpur, many water plants are selling chilled water in unpackaged and unsealed containers. These units were found in unhygienic and unmonitored conditions and running without licenses from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) or Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), which are mandatory for selling Packaged Drinking Water.
